Separation from the whole
by: Ken Meyer

All life forms on earth exist in the dual reality of space-time and include the following:

#1. An outside perimeter or membrane that serves as a defensible boundary delimiting an "inside" distinct and defensible from an outside that is other than "it."

#2. An energy source to fuel three necessary internal processes:
a. Defend the boundary membrane
b. Maintain internal viability and homeostasis within the boundary separating inside from outside
c. An ability to self-replicate and/or reproduce.

(#1 can be viewed as occupying space and #2 as what occurs within that space over time.)
