Strictly speaking, the phrase "like begets like" refers to what?

My choices are:

a) sexual reproduction only,
b) all forms of reproduction,
c) sexual reproduciton between different species,
d) asexual reproduction,
e) production of gametes from a premeiotic cell.

I believe it's "d" because there is only entity being reproduced and there are no variables. I understand why it can't be "c", but is "a" or "e" viable options?
