Crossing over is the exchange of segments of chromosomes, and thus the exchange of DNA, but what exactly is double crossing over and what is its impact on the recombination frequency?

How does crossing over cause the recombination frequency to be inaccurate and provide the wrong information in terms of providing map units to map the location of the loci on the chromosome?
